Real Housewives of DC: More Drama Than the Florida Recount

Cocktail party chatter in Washington this weekend was all about Supreme Court nominee Sonya Sotamay…

KIDDING!

Cocktail party chatter in DC this weekend was really all about who will be and who should be cast in the newest franchise of the Bravo reality show, “Real Housewives.”

The Washington Post did a piece on some of the women who had already been filmed for try-outs for the show, which gives us a few names to debate as good or not-so-good casting ideas:

Edwina Rogers: Wife of big-time Republican lobbyists Ed Rogers. Lives in a McLean mansion they call “Surry Hill.”

Susanna Quinn: Wife of uber-Democrat lobbyist Jack Quinn. Well liked in DC on both sides of the aisle.

Juleanna Glover Weiss: Divorced lobbyist and communications strategist. Throws lots of parties.

Abby Greensfelder: Moves among the political/media elite. Wife of New Republic editor Franklin Foer.

Andrea Rodgers: Blogger, socialite, advice columnist.

Carol Joynt: Owner of the Washington ultimate insider restaurant, Nathan’s.

Since I have to eat in this town again, I am not saying who in this lot is considered “not one of us”, but suffice to say, the Bravo producers need to do more research. The names being mentioned most often around DC who should be in the final casting for the show are:

Elizabeth Eberhardt Thorp: Far and away the most popular and well-liked candidate. President of big DC communications company. BFF with Ali Wentworth and George Stephanopoulos. Socially connected mother of three girls.

Abigail Blunt: Wife of Rep. Roy Blunt (R-MO), who is running for Senate in 2010. A Kraft lobbyist, she is listed in The Hill as one of the Top 50 Corporate Lobbyists in DC. Known for her fashionable wardrobe.

Rima al-Sabah: Wife of the Ambassador of Kuwait Sheikh Salem Abdullah al-Sabah. Mother of four. Knows everyone in town from the diplomatic to the social set.

Norah O’Donnell: MSNBC anchor. Wife of Geoff Tracy, owner of power neighborhood restaurant, Chef Geoff’s, the mother of three young children.

Elaine Chao: Wife of Senate Minority Leader Senator Mitch McConnell (R-KY) and most recently, she was Bush’s Secretary of Labor. Known for her entertainingly prickly personality.

Rhoda Glickman: Wife of Democrat Dan Glickman, who is head of the powerful Motion Pictures Association of America.

Ann Hand: Owner of namesake go-to jewelry store for political women, social butterfly, wife of Democrat lawyer Lloyd Hand.

Barbara Harrison: WRC-TV local anchor, emcees all the ladies-who-lunch fundraisers.

The criteria true Washington insiders think have to make the show better are:
- Real rather than imagined access to politicians;
- Social connection to real Washington — the Georgetown/Chevy Chase set — who are all listed in the “The Social List of Washington” (aka “The Green Book”);
- Thick enough skin to handle criticisms from the crowd (and savvy enough to know that comes with the show);
- Smarts enough to know she’ll be mocked;
- Additionally, she should be either: a) well liked among real Washington insiders, or b) hated by Washington insiders.

Bravo producers, listen to the Washington insiders before you make any final decisions. We know how to make “The Real Housewives of Washington, DC” the most successful of all your shows.

Remember, we invented the Florida recount, which held up the presidential election results of the most powerful nation in the world, for over a month. If there is one thing we do well in DC, it’s creating drama.

    Can I just say what a relief to get somebody that actually understands exactly what theyre talking about on the web. You definitely understand how to bring a problem to light to make it important. More people really need to see this and understand this side of the story. I can’t believe you are not more popular because you definitely contain the gift.

    I’ll gear this review to 2 types of people: current Zune owners who are considering an upgrade, and people trying to decide between a Zune and an iPod. (There are other players worth considering out there, like the Sony Walkman X, but I hope this gives you enough info to make an informed decision of the Zune vs players other than the iPod line as well.)

    These moles might be irregular in dimension and coloration and this really is what tends to make them such a health threat. If you have been born with this disorder you might also be far more probably to develop Melanoma and so you might need to consider the needed precautions when it comes to guarding your skin and your wellness.
