Top 10 Reasons to Turn the Page on “Jon & Kate Plus 8″

Every Friday, my reward for the week is US Weekly magazine in my mailbox. I immediately read it cover to cover, which, admittedly, with the limited text, takes about an hour.

Today I skipped down to my mailbox, unfurled US Weekly and reeled back in HORROR. The cover story is once again that horrible woman Kate Gosselin for the FIFTH WEEK IN A ROW.

I considered my options: Cancel my subscription in protest. Renew my subscription to “People” magazine. Then it hits me: start a petition to the editors of US Weekly to stop covering Jon & Kate Plus 8.

To make matters worse, today is Jon and Kate Gosselin’s 10th wedding anniversary and the celebrity websites are all over it like white on rice.

I love trashy reality TV – as you can see from my past columns on Real Housewives of New York City and Real Housewives of Washington, DC. However, I had never watched TLC’s “Jon and Kate Plus 8″ (from now on: JK+8) before this scandal with their marriage hit the celebrity magazines.

Once JK+8 hit the covers of both People and US Weekly in the same week, I figured it was time to TiVo the show to get caught up on this pop culture story. I watched the first two episodes of the season….

ZZZZZZZZZZZZZ

…oops. That was me falling asleep on the couch. The show is that boring. If you have not already watched it, I wouldn’t ask you to suffer, too, so here’s all you need to know:

Series synopsis: Jon and Kate fall in love when she is seemingly nice and normal. They try to have a baby, which doesn’t work naturally, they use IUI (not IVF, I stand corrected) and have twin girls. Then Kate decides she wants more kids, does IVF again and has a litter of 6. Thus, we get the “Plus 8″ – those are children.

Scandal recap: Kate is a b*!+% and vicious to Jon on TV. Jon is caught with a 22-year old girl by papparazzi but denies cheating. Kate plays victim role to the max. Then, Kate is accused of cheating with her bodyguard. JK+8 continue to make millions of dollars from the show, book deal and speaking fees. Jon and Kate openly hate each other on camera.

Anyway, back to my frustration of these awful people on the cover of my favorite magazine for the fifth week in a row. I hope you all sign in below to agree that US Weekly/People must stop covering them. If you do not have an AOL account, you can also go directly to the source and comment on Kate’s TLC Blog.

Top 10 Reasons for Petition to Stop Celebrity Magazines from Putting Jon & Kate Plus 8 on the Cover:

1. The show is boring – even with the cheating scandals and marital discord.

2. JK+8 are making millions of dollars for being narcissistic hypocrites, let’s stop encouraging it.

3. There are innocent kids involved who are being used by their parents for reason #2.

4. Her hair.

5. His poor-me, victim mentality.

6. The magazine sits on my coffee table all week with pictures of Jon and Kate, not attractive.

7. Angelina Jolie is so beautiful. Brad Pitt is so handsome. They make good coffee table accessories. There are (untrue) rumors of a breakup that I want to read. Or maybe they are adopting again? I can’t get enough of Brangelina.

8. Jennifer Aniston publicly denied a rendez vous with Brad. I missed this because of 5 weeks of JK+8 coverage.

9. Celebrities are our escapism – that’s the reason we buy these magazines – JK+8 is just depressing.

10. George Clooney. I want to open my mailbox next Friday and unfurl my magazine and see Clooney looking back at me. Shirtless. THAT is what I call TGIF.
