Where in the World Is MARIA?

She could be in the FBI’s Witness Protection Program, so elusive is the mysterious Maria of Mark Sanford fame. Photographers and reporters from media outlets around the world have been camped out in Argentina for the past week looking for the South Carolina Governnor’s mistress, Maria Belen Chapur, to no avail.

Political scandal watchers (present company included) hit “Maria Mark Sanford” on Google Images repeatedly, waiting for a current photo to emerge.

I am impressed — and shocked, actually — that none of Maria’s friends or family have sold pictures of her. Selling out friends/family to tabloids — that’s the American way! Oddly, she has suspicions of who leaked her email correspondence with Sanford, but this person apparently doesn’t have any pictures to accompany the vengeful hack and leak.

When former Vice President Dick Cheney would regularly disappear from Washington to an “undisclosed location” after 9/11, most reporters knew where he was hiding (when he wasn’t fly fishing in Wyoming).

And in political sex scandal history, all the mistresses are eventually found either by paparazzi (Rielle Hunter) or by selling their story (Spitzer hooker) or with the exclusive sit-down interview (Monica Lewinsky). So, where in the world is Maria?
