Reese Witherspoon has finished filming a movie in DC and gone home to LA. Let us have a moment of silence to remember the weeks we had the perfect, blonde, sprite in our midst.

I tried to see her in real life, but the gods were against me (as were the doormen at the Four Seasons in Georgetown).

So I virtually followed Reese as she filmed, feasted and fitnessed through DC this summer. Since I first wrote about my adoration of Reese Witherspoon earlier this summer, I have read every email, news article, Twitter, blog link and Facebook status update mentioning her whereabouts in the city.

While mourning the loss of my IBF (Imaginary Best Friend) in town, I’ve combining all the virtual sources of our time together for a look back at the best Reese moments in Washington.

My favorite Reese spotting came from a fellow Reese IBF who was seated next to her for lunch at Leopold’s in Georgetown. Reese sat alone looking “very peaceful and serene by herself.”

Our Reese has “amazing skin — not a wrinkle in sight and no Botox or weird cosmetic enhancements” and is “very pretty”. She was deemed “teeny teeny tiny”, which may explain that she “ate a very smelly hard-boiled egg for lunch — that’s all!!

She was wearing “a cute French cotton large-pleated sorta blousy skirt,” with a “sleeveless white top, a very plain, seemingly inexpensive watch, flats, a cute straw hat with black ribbon band, pony tail, sunglasses that are sorta 1950s, straw-hard-backed purse, little jewelry.”

And, I love this “Legally Blonde” as real life tidbit, Reese had with her “a little PINK iPhone/Blackberry”

My second favorite sighting was the ultimate Elle Woods goes to Washington moment: Reese in the Oval Office with Presidnet Obama. She wore a sweet blue dress, carried a rose (not sure why, but a sweet touch) and appears so tiny that she doesn’t even reach the president’s shoulders.

And of course, all hopeful romantics must love the cutest celebrity couple in Hollywood, Reese and her adorable boyfriend Jake Gyllenhaal. Jake came to DC to spend time with her while she was filming. They were seen wearing matching workout outfits (gray tops, blue shorts, baseball caps) to run together in Georgetown.

Jake often visited her on set, even when she was shooting late at night. Photos of them snuggling in a director’s chair will make your heart melt.

They were seen in the Four Seasons lobby holding hands (Doesn’t it seem they are always holding hands? So adorable.) They shopped the sale rack together at chic Relish in Cady’s Alley.

Jake and Reese were spotted eating at Washington’s hippest and romantic restaurants: Dinner at the bar at Potenza (sitting close, drinking rosé, eating the Margherita pizza); Rita’s Italian Ice (lemon flavor for both); brunch at the Blue Duck Tavern (crab omelette, sausage and veggie side dishes); breakfast at le Pain Quotidien (omelettes and doing the NY Times crossword in pen); Oyamel in Penn Quarter; Starbucks in Woodley Park; Komi (blue dress, white cardigan; he came over to her side of the table after dessert to cuddle.)

Filming locations with eye-witness sightings of her blonde tresses were: Adams Morgan (quite often in this ‘hood) “at corner of Adams Mill Road and Columbia Road”; “In the lobby of my building (875 15th Street NW DC 20005)”; “Tonight @ Adams Mill bar; Corner of 18th and Columbia”; “Georgetown Waterfront Park and the stretch of 33 Street between Grace and Water Streets”; and across from the FBI.

My favorite filming sightings were Reese dressed in supposedly DC professional style in purple because the shoes were way too high for walking around downtown and running on the mall because she wore the same running shoes as me! (I know it’s a costume, but let me dream.)

Alas, I learned that Reese had officially left DC from the Twitter sightings of her shopping in Brentwood. I’ve been devastated that I lost my chance to make my relationship with Reese from IBF to BFF.

As I have tried to come to terms with my loss, the W.H. Auden poem – best known from the “funeral” in the movie “Four Weddings and a Funeral” – keeps going through my head:

Stop all the clocks, cut off the telephone,
Prevent the dog from barking with a juicy bone,
Silence the pianos and with muffled drum
Bring out the coffin, let the mourners come. Reese Witherspoon is gone.

OK, I added the last stanza, but the sentiment is sincere. RIP Reese in DC.
