Martha Stewart and Matthew Morrison of ‘Glee’ Tour White House Christmas Decorations
Martha Stewart and actor Matthew Morrison toured the White House Monday, separately, to view the Obama family’s first Christmas decorations.
In the East Room, Morrison was greeted by fans who only knew him by his character’s name — “Mr. Schuester” — from the hit Fox show, “Glee.” He was in Washington, D.C. for the Kennedy Center honors Sunday night.
On the other end of the East Wing, Stewart appeared from an unmarked door in the grand foyer for a personal tour of the decorations.
Wearing a brown suit with purple suede stilettos, Stewart and her entourage navigated inside the velvet ropes and stanchions in each room, pointing at some decorations, taking pictures of others.
I asked the maven of decoration and domestic arts if she had a favorite White House ornament, but she only responded, “I don’t know yet — I just started looking.”
When I offered that the Christmas tree, decorated with ornaments from around the country, was beautiful, she responded: “Yes, I’ve seen it in years past,” then walked away, her glittery blonde mane sparkling under the White House chandeliers.
Actually, the tree was different this year in that all of its ornaments were recycled. First Lady Michelle Obama asked volunteer groups to take old ornaments and customize them with with state landmarks, such as Mount Rushmore and the Statue of Liberty.
Maybe Stewart was thinking of another Christmas tree . . . or just wanted to be left alone?
Stewart did not shake hands or talk to the public on the tour, nor would she pose for pictures.
She stopped in the State Dining Room at the White House gingerbread house, peering into theshadow box of the replica of the room.
She gave her camera to her staff and had her picture taken in front of the white chocolate-covered house, posing with her back to the public.
Martha Stewart, who originally became famous for her cookbooks, departed the White House tour via the kitchen, natch.
